While 2015 was a very active year on n umerous legislative issues for Ohio Towers, 2016 is off to a busy start already. TRAO has been diligently work- i ng closely with not only Representative Ron Young and other key legislative members. We are currently working together and addressing HB341. While not yet a law, it will bring to the table many positive things for our industry. HB 341 will bring about the following changes: A much easier and a more-timely man- ner for towers to process and obtain a "for destruction only" title on vehicles that have a much lower value than previously allowed. A new process to give the much need- ed help for towers around the state to clean up their storage lots and dispose of these types of vehicles. To allow towers when applying for titles to be able to deduct the towing charge as well as limited storage fees from the value of the vehicle. It will address and give a much need- ed increase in the existing towing and storage fees that towers are currently charging, thus granting PUCO the authori- ty to review those fees every five years and increase those fees based on the con- sumer price index. Will establish permissible fees that towers can charge for the retrieval of per- sonal items from a vehicle after business hours. We are hopeful that 2016 will bring about more positive and tower- friendly legislative changes for not only our members but all towers in the State of Ohio. 14 Tow Professional | Volume 5 • Issue 1 | I N D U S T RY NEWS T O W I N G & R E C O V E R Y T O W I N G & R E C O V E R Y TRAO Helps to Bring Relief to Ohio Towers with HB341
